This project came to life through a fellowship program funded by the Akademie Schloss Solitude and the Goethe Institute Namibia. The program It is part of the “Hidden Pasts – Shared Futures” project, a workshop series curated by Memory Biwa, a Namibian artist and historian. This series initiates a collective engagement with the colonial history between Namibia and Germany and develops new artistic narratives.

On a journey through the country with a group of BiPOC artists from Namibia and Germany, I explored how to connect respectfully with the country’s history and its people. As an Afro-German artist, I questioned my artistic practice and how to navigate through the country. How do I process what I have seen and experienced? In a role of observation and learning, I created a knitted piece from photographs digitally processed by a semi-automatic knitting machine and a photo book. This book shares the stories of 12 BiPOC artists, who engage with history, landscape, and people.
